2) Will I then actually volunteer my time to the world's most unique volunteer maritime organization?

If you honestly will make these commitments, then the U S Coast Guard Auxiliary is for you.

"The purpose of the Auxiliary is to assist the Coast Guard as authorized by the Commandant, in performing any Coast Guard function, power, duty, role, mission, or operation authorized by law. "
